Landmark Properties, the largest developer of purpose-built student accommodation (PBSA) in the United States, was entering the UK market to capitalise on growing opportunities and lay the foundation for future European expansion.

With no established brand presence in the UK, Landmark faced the dual challenge of attracting top-tier talent while building awareness of its long-term vision, development capability, and track record. The business needed to secure senior hires across investment and development functions while also sourcing deals and building a pipeline. With limited visibility in the UK real estate talent pool, access and engagement were critical to success.

(Solution)

We partnered with Landmark’s leadership team to define the ideal profile, aligning on deliverables, key competencies, and cultural fit. From there, we mapped 155 candidates with experience in complex development appraisals, feasibilities, and delivery within the UK Living sector, targeting both established Senior Development Managers and high-performing Development Managers ready to step up. Tailored outreach highlighted Landmark’s ambition and the strategic opportunity of the role, while a structured process assessed both technical expertise and leadership potential. We supported the search end-to-end, including interview planning, candidate preparation, offer management, and transition planning.

The Outcome

Landmark appointed a Development Manager with the technical strength, commercial insight, and leadership qualities to help establish their UK platform. The process delivered a high-quality shortlist, clear alignment around expectations, and a strategic hire that met all technical and cultural criteria. Following the Development hire, Rockbourne subsequently partnered with Landmark to appoint an Investment Professional to aid deal execution.
